Bette Midler, a left-leaning actress, suggests that all women should refuse to have sex without men in response to Texas’ “heartbeat” law. This bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
Loose Women actress Loise Women tweeted, “I suggest all women refuse to sex with men till they are guaranteed that the right to choose Congress,” she said.
Midler’s remarks came just one day after Texas passed a law prohibiting women from killing unborn children.
The Freak Show actress isn’t the only activist celebrity to call for sex strikes to protest such legislation.
Alyssa Milano, the actress and left-wing activist called for women to stop having sex with men in 2019.
The actress said that until women have legal control of their bodies, they cannot risk having sex. Join me by refusing to have sex until you get your bodily autonomy back. #SexStrike is what I am calling for. Please pass it on.”
Milano responded to Georgia legislation that Gov. Brian Kemp (R) had signed Georgia legislation that prohibits abortions in the State after a heartbeat has been detected. This is usually around six weeks into a woman’s pregnancy. The law does not apply to cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.
Midler and Milano weren’t the only ones to be alarmed at abortion laws. Others have expressed their shock in a strange and unorthodox manner.
Cher, the pop star, responded to the Texas law on Thursday by trivializing the barbaric oppression women face in Muslim majority countries. She compared it with the Texas law and stated, “Wondering when Texas will start mandating burqas?”
Milano and other stars, including Amy Schumer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Dave Bautista and Amy Brenneman, have reacted similarly to the accusations, calling Texas legislators “Texas Taliban” while accusing them, among others, of passing “sharia” laws.
