Two big Disney movies from the 2016 to 2019 Disney/Netflix contract are due to expire throughout July 2019. We’ve got all the details you need below of what titles are leaving and whether they’re worth your time. At the moment, both movies are set to return later in the 2020s as we’ll take you through too.
The two movies in question that are leaving is Cars 3 (2017) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) which also has the name of Salazar’s Revenge in some countries.
Both of these movies are scheduled to be removed from Netflix in July 2019 in the United States and Canada.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Added to Netflix: January 2nd, 2018
Netflix Removal Date: July 2nd, 2019
This Pirates of the Caribbean movie was absolutely skewered by critics when it released back in May 2017 and rightly so. The movie is criticized for numerous factors and has led to Pirates of the Caribbean likely going to be rebooted by Disney in future years.
Never-the-less, the movie franchise is still incredibly popular given it stars Johnny Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Cars 3 (2017)
Added to Netflix: January 31st, 2018
Netflix Removal Date: July 31st, 2019
If you have to watch one title out of the two we’d advise you to give Cars 3 a try. The Cars franchise has always been one of the duds in the Pixar library especially with Cars 2 but Cars 3 redeemed the franchise for us.
It tells the story of Lightning McQueen coming to terms that he’s passed his peak and now has to adapt to life outside the track.
There’s plenty of other Disney removals scheduled over the next year or two which we’ve cataloged here. July is already shaping up to be a big month for removals from the service with even a couple of Netflix Original scheduled to leave.
Disney movies are still coming to Netflix with Wreck-it Ralph 2 coming in June and then the final movie, Mary Poppins Returns likely coming in either July or August 2019.
Where will these movies stream next? Well, the movies are likely going to premiere on the Disney+ lineup scheduled for November 2019 this year.
With that said, we’re expecting these movies to return to Netflix in the late 2020s as Disney failed to secure the pay 2 window rights.
