‘The Lion King’ director Jon Favreau has dropped an update on his upcoming live-action ‘Star Wars’ series ‘The Mandalorian.’ The maverick creator told Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday that he had done with the first season of the series and already begun writing season 2 of the show. Favreau is creating his ‘Star Wars’ universe show ‘The Mandalorian’ for the upcoming streaming platform Disney+.
“We’re done with the first season,” Favreau is quoted as saying by The Wrap. “I’m actually writing part of the second season now.”
Disney revealed in February that ‘The Mandalorian’ would follow the ‘Star Wars’ timeline after the events of ‘The Return of the Jedi.’ The plot will follow a bounty hunter who belongs to the race that made the mighty “Fett” armor. The Galactic Empire has already gone and the hell is breaking loose.
“it’s about the scum and villainy that now wants to take out the rule of law,” Favreau said. “What happens? Chaos takes over.”
According to the ‘Star Wars’ lore, Mandalorians made the characteristic armor for bounty hunters Boba Fett and Jango Fett. ‘The Mandalorian’ stars Nick Nolte, Werner Herzog, Gina Carano, and Pedro Pascal as the central Mandalorian characters. Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, and Omid Abtahi round out the cast.
Favreau serves as the writer and executive producer of the series while Bryce Dallas Howard, Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow direct separate episodes. Dave Filoni, who is known for ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ and ‘Star Wars Rebels,’ directs the premiere. Ludwig Göransson, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Score for his work in ‘Black Panther,’ joins the project as a composer.
The series is expected to be one of the flagship titles in the programming slate of Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+. Billed as a strong rival to Netflix, the new platform will start rolling by the end of 2019.
As part of its strategy to borrow as much as original content from the Disney vaults, the streaming service will also feature another series based on the ‘Star Wars’ universe with Diego Luna’s ‘Rogue One’ character in the lead. Marvel is also working overtime to add its standalone series of MCU characters such as Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) to the Disney+ roster.
