Sky and HBO team up again after the successful miniseries ‘Chernobyl‘ for the upcoming drama series ‘The Third Day.’ Jude Law is set to star in the six-part miniseries which will be the first scripted original from Sky Studios, reports Variety. Plan B will produce the series in association with Punchdrunk International and Dennis Kelly (‘Utopia‘ and ‘Pulling’). ‘The Third Day’ will be directed by Marc Munden (‘National Treasure‘) from a script by Kit de Waal and Dean O’Loughlin. Adrian Sturges will produce the project which is touted as a fantasy drama.

The plot is set on a mysterious island off the British coast where a secretive group of people live with their strange rituals. When Sam (Law) chances upon the reclusive islanders, his perceptions of reality and fantasy turn upside down. The strange and harrowing rituals trigger his past traumas. Soon, Sam finds himself at loggerheads with the dangerous islanders.

“The Third Day’ is the result of the intoxicating combined imaginations of Dennis Kelly and Punchdrunk International’s Felix Barrett,” Cameron Roach, director of Sky U.K. is quoted as saying by Variety. “To see them brought to life under the direction of Marc Munden and with Jude Law at the helm of what promises to be a world-class cast is an incredibly exciting prospect.”

“Dennis and Felix have created something fresh and unique, and we are thrilled to have this on HBO. We look forward to collaborating with Punchdrunk International, Marc and Jude as well as furthering our relationship with Sky and Plan B Entertainment,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming. The production of ‘The Third Day’ is due in July 2019. The series will debut on Sky Atlantic in Europe and HBO in North America in 2020.

‘The Third Day’ is part of the original collaboration deal between HBO and Sky. It follows ‘Chernobyl,’ the critically acclaimed historical drama miniseries, which is created and written by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck. The series was produced by HBO in association with Sky.

Next in the line of the successful partnership of the broadcasting giants is the period drama ‘Catherine the Great’ starring Helen Mirren, which will be followed by the thriller ‘Temple’ with Mark Strong in the lead and the comedy ‘Brassic’ from Joe Gilgun and Michelle Keegan. An upcoming second season of ‘In the Long Run’ starring Idris Elba is also in the pipeline.
