On May 5, 1960, Kurt Leon Sutter was born. He is an American director, producer, actor, and screenwriter. He contributed to The Shield as a producer, writer, and director in addition to playing the hitman Margos Dezerian. Sons of Anarchy and its offshoot Mayans M.C. on FX were both created by Sutter, who also played as club member Otto Delaney and wrote, produced, and directed the show. As part of his research for Sons of Anarchy, Sutter spent time in Northern California with members of an illegal motorcycle gang. Gemma Teller, the title character, was portrayed by Sutter’s wife, actress Katey Sagal.

For the first season of the FX criminal drama The Shield in 2002, Sutter was employed as a staff writer. He made his acting debut on television in the “Blowback” episode, playing Armenian mob hitman Margos Dezerian. Along with fellow staff writer Scott Rosenbaum, he co-wrote the episodes “Dragonchasers” and “Two Days of Blood.” In 2003, he was elevated to the position of story editor for the second season. In 2004, he joined the production team as a junior co-producer for the third season. He wrote the episodes “Scar Tissue” and “Dead Soldiers.” He proceeded to pen episodes, co-writing “Playing Tight” and “Mum” with Shawn Ryan, the show’s creator and executive producer, “Slipknot” alone, and “Fire in the Hole” with Charles H. Eglee, a consulting producer. In the season’s closing episodes, “All In” and “On Tilt,” he played Dezerian once more.

In 2005, he received a promotion to supervising producer for the fourth season. He co-wrote the teleplay for the episode “Judas Priest” with Rosenbaum and co-wrote the story for the episode “Grave” with Eglee. Along with Ryan, he co-wrote the episode’s teleplay with co-executive producer Glen Mazzara for the season finale, “Ain’t That a Shame.”
