Lionsgate Acquires Colin Farrell & Tye Sheridan’s ‘Voyagers’

Lionsgate has acquired the U.S. rights to the upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Voyagers’ directed by Neil Burger, reports Deadline. Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan are set to play lead roles in the movie which is being produced by AGC Studios and Thunder Road production. Described as ’Lord of the Flies’ for a new generation, ‘Voyagers’ also reunites director Neil Burger with Lionsgate.

Set in the near future, ‘Voyagers’ follows a group of 30 young astronauts who are sent into the uncharted dark corners of space for a multi-generational secret mission. Earth has become uninhabitable and the crew have to find a new home for mankind somewhere in the space. But the journey takes a wild turn when the captain of the ship dies and the crew slip into unimaginable madness. They are torn between mutual distrust and the question of survival when tribal groups are formed among them.

“Acquiring U.S. rights to Voyagers was an easy decision for us,” Jason Constantine, Lionsgate president of acquisitions and co-productions, is quoted as saying by THR, “We have worked with Neil Burger very successfully and he will without a doubt create an experience with Voyagers as a sophisticated and stylish event sci-fi thriller.”

Apart from Farrell and Sheridan, ‘Voyagers’ stars Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, Viveik Kalra, Quintessa Swindell, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Archie Madekwe, Archie Renaux, and Chanté Adams.

Burger wrote the script for the film which is financed by AGC Studios in partnership with AGC investors Fibonacci Films, Ingenious Media, and Aperture Media. Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road produces along with Brendon Boyea, Iwanyk and Burger. Stuart Ford and Greg Shapiro also join the project as executive producers.

“Paired with the amazing producing team behind John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and this outstanding cast of our industry’s most talented young actors, this package had everything we were looking for that made us excited and eager to jump on board. ‘Voyagers’ is a unique opportunity to present an elevated horror film with deep and complex morality themes,” Jason Constantine said in the statement.

Burger is best known for films like ‘The Upside,’ ‘Divergent,’ ‘Limitless,’ and ‘The Illusionist.’ Earlier this month, the makers have roped in famous production designer Scott Chambliss who is known for his outstanding work in ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Star Trek Into Darkness,’ ‘Godzilla: King of The Monsters,’ ‘Cowboys and Aliens,’ ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2,’ and ‘Mission: Impossible III.’

Production began this week in Bucharest, Romania.
