Comedy is one of the most, if not the most, difficult things in the entertainment business. The meaning of everything and the context behind various things continuously evolves. What was funny ten years ago might not be able to crack up the current generation. Any worse than this, and you might even offend the audience. TV shows have a difficult task of creating new content for every episode of every season. You can never be “not funny” because why are you a comedy otherwise?
While most shows are forgotten after they end their run, there are some that stay evergreen, and the best ones become more relevant as the time passes. ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ is one of those shows. An acclaimed and beloved comedy, it started with Larry David’s wish to make a one-hour comedy special for HBO. But that was in 1999. Now it is a full-fledged show with nine seasons under its name, and another one in production. The show is a laugh riot with Larry David, and almost every other actor, playing an over-exaggerated version of themselves. Even the guests have to enter an alternate reality and embrace some quirks that they might not have in real life. The series has a total of 43 Emmy nominations to its name, with David receiving the honour six times.
Like any other series, ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ had its ups and downs, though not so intense. By season eight, it seemed like it had reached a point where to top itself with the next season would be a humungous task. Most comedies that have had such long runs have fallen prey to their arrogance, and hence incompetence, believing that the fans will take whatever the show gives them. (Looking at you, ‘Friends‘!) But ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ is better than them. In 2011, HBO and David gave it an indefinite hiatus, never confirming nor denying another season for the next six years. And just when you think the show was done and over with, it received a revival and graced the screens in 2017.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 10 Cast: Who is in it?
‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ features various actors as a fictionalised version of themselves. Larry David stars as a neurotic version of himself who has a habit of going to extremes in order to prove that he is right. Jeff Garlin plays the role of Jeff Greene, Larry’s manager who has a difficult marriage. Cheryl Hines plays the role of Cheryl David, the wife and the voice of reason in Larry’s life. Susie Essman appears in the role of Susie Greene, Jeff’s wife who never approves of anything that he does. J.B Smoove plays the role of Leon Black.
The show has had a great number of actors playing themselves or a mild version of something close to their identities. Mel Brooks, Martin Scorcese, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Stiller, Christian Slater, Shaquille O’Neal, Julia Louis-Dreyfus are some celebs who have been a part of the show. Season nine guest stars included Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks, Jimmy Kimmel, Carrie Brownstein, Lauren Graham, Ed Begley, Jr., Nick Offerman, Nasim Pedrad and Elizabeth Perkins.
While most details are being kept under wraps for the next season, a few cast names have been slipped out for the fans. Reportedly, Jeff Tweedy is to join the show for the next season. Also, the character of Mocha Joe, who first made an appearance in the seventh season, might also return. However, exactly how and where his storyline grows is yet to be seen. The role of Joe is played by Saverio Guerra.
