Who does not enjoy a good Dance Reality show? Whether it is ‘Simply Come Dancing’ or ‘Dancing with the Stars’, dance competition shows are some of the most popular reality-based shows out there, and with good reason: they are entertaining, they are fun, they have drama, and they involve often mad skills that the audience at home is happy to see and admire without having to acquire.
‘Dancing with the Stars Juniors’ is a spin-off of the popular dance reality show for celebrities called ‘Dancing with the Stars’. This American children’s dance competition series on ABC features – like the original – celebrity kids (in their own rights or celebrity by extension, being children or grandchildren of famous people) who are paired up with junior ballroom dancers to compete against each other. The teams are mentored by adult professional dancers, and practice and perform choreographed dance routines to be judged and rated by judges.
Dancing with the Stars: Juniors Cast: Who’s in it?
The show is hosted by Jordan Fisher, winner of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 25,and finalist from the same season, Frankie Muniz. Judges panel includes Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Two-time pro champion dancer, Mandy Moore, a choreographer who has one Emmy, and Adam Rippon – DWTS Athletes champion. The show stars 12 celebrity contestants, with 12 young dancing professionals mentored by Dancing with the Stars pros. They are:
Mackenzie Ziegler a former dancer, and a singer with a new single just out; star of Brat’s digital series, Total Eclipse dancing with Sage Rosen, mentored by GlebSavchenko; Sky Brown, a skateboarding and surfing prodigy, with over 50 million views on social media, dancing with JT Church, mentored by Alan Bersten; Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, starting her road to fame with ‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ at age of 5 and the star of her own show ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’, dancing with Tristan Ianiero, mentored by Artem Chigvintsev; Tripp Johnston, grandson of Sarah Palin, dancing with Hailey Bills, mentored by Jenna Johnson; Ariana Greenblatt, a former actor in Disney’s ‘Stuck in the Middle’ and fresh from shooting ‘The One and Only Ivan’ dancing with Artyon Celestine, mentored by Brandon Armstrong; Miles Brown, Jack of ABC’s black-ish, and a member of the Jr NBA Leadership Council, dancing with Rylee Arnold, mentored by Lindsay Arnold.
Dancing with the Stars: Juniors Plot: What is it about?
‘Dancing with the Stars Juniors’ follows the original format of the adult ‘Dancing with the Stars’ show to a large extent. Each week, the child celebrities and their partner professional junior dancers, under the watchful eye of their adult mentors, practice and perform a themed dance routine for a panel of judges and a studio audience. The scoring system is pretty much the same too, with one significant difference. While the scores are still based on judges scores and audience voting in a 50-50 break-up, there is no live voting; the show is recorded and aired. As a result, the audience score comes from only the in-studio audience while the episode is being recorded.
It is not just impressive, but inspiring how these kids do not just pick up the complicated dance routines, but actually get out there and give themselves off completely. It is almost enough to make “grown-ups” re-evaluate their lives. If these kids can just go out there, face an audience, judges, and millions of viewers, and dance, never forgetting all their complicated routines, then it seems, nothing is really impossible after all. First season winners were Sky Brown and her partner, JT Church, crowned champions after an hour-long season finale. “I just want to say to everyone, you’re all winners and I love you all and I am going to miss you so much,” Sky told her fellow competitors after being announced the winner. The 10-year-old prodigy learned to skateboard when she was only 3 and currently continues to be one of the youngest girls to compete and win at a professional skateboarding competition.
