The relationship between snakes and humans has been tainted ever since Eve took a slice of that fated apple after being tempted by a talking serpent. Snakes maybe beautiful, mysterious, and grand creatures; but for most of us, they are scary, slithering, sinister beasts. And among the many species of this predator, a fearsome snake that’s terrorizing Florida is the Burmese python — an aborigine from South Asia. This article from The New York Times describes it as “the snake that’s eating Florida.”
This influx of this foreign invader in the Everglades National Park was primarily because of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. But they have been spotted in this region ever since the 1980s. Until now, the predator has feasted on around 90% of certain species of mammals and birds in specific parts of the subtropical Everglades. Their number may have reached tens of thousands as per the latest estimates.
With a mission to save the Glades for complete elimination, snake hunter Dusty “The Wildman” Crum has decided to hunt down these notorious predators. His hunting quest has been captured and turned into a TV show called ‘Guardian of the Glades.’ Executive produced by Seth Sherman, Rick Sasson, Ross Weintraub, Jonathan Goldman, and Brent Henderson, this nature documentary series airs on Discovery.
Guardians of the Glades Cast: Who is in it?
Dusty Crum leads his crew in this thrill-packed adventure series. He is already recognized for capturing some of the largest snakes inhabiting the swampy wetlands of Everglades. In his mission, he is accompanied by a team of gutsy environmentalists, including Brittany; swamp expert, Jay; wildlife specialist, Gary; survivalist, Tom; and Florida’s number one python-hunting Beagle, Riley.
Guardians of the Glades Plot: What is it about?
‘Guardians of the Glades’ documents how Crum and his team tackle the Burmese python encroachment in the Everglades. These swamps, located on the southernmost tip of Florida, were once teeming with biodiversity. However, after Hurricane Andrew, many Burmese pythons held as captives in a breeding facility escaped and took shelter in the marshlands. They quickly multiplied after breeding and feeding on the variety of fauna inhabiting these mangroves, such as rabbits, raccoons, bobcats, birds, and deers. The giant constrictors, which can reach up to several feet in length, even attempt to devour alligators. As a result, this has led to a severe fall in the population of the native wildlife, causing the ecosystem to become totally fragile.
In order to combat the dwindling populace of animals in the Glades, the state launched a python bounty program in a desperate bid to protect this biodome. Now, Dusty Crum, along with his team of expert fellow snake hunters, experts, and survivalists, takes matters into his own hands and aims to stop these deadly creatures from further destroying the ecosystem. And this task is packed with extreme dangers lurking underneath, with slithering giants camouflaged within the dense foliage and murky waters.
Guardians of the Glades Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Guardians of the Glades’ season 1 premiered on May 28, 2019, on Discovery Channel and DiscoveryGO. Discovery Channel has been delivering the highest quality non-fiction content since its launch. Almost all its programs are not only interesting but also informational to watch. ‘Guardians of the Glades’ is just another addition to its exhaustive list. Hence, noting the interesting premise of its concept, we are hopeful that the show will be renewed for another season soon. But the question is, when? Considering the complexity of the entire shoot involved in the documentation process, another renewal should take a year at least to be completed. Hence, if ‘Guardians of the Glades’ season 2 happens, it should premiere sometime in May 2020. We will update this section as we learn more.
