Constant freezing temperatures below -40 degrees, snow-covered landscapes, and home to some of the most diverse wildlife — The Arctic Region immediately brings these elements to our minds when we try to imagine it. Sounds almost dreamy! But, did you know that this northernmost part of our planet is one of the harshest places to survive? Yes, here, nature is at its fiercest, most menacing avatar.

So, what is ‘Alone’ all about? It is an American reality TV show that revolves around a group of individuals, who document their survival in the wilderness. They can attempt to stay as long as possible with limited means and equipment, zero human contact, and the facility of periodical medical check-ups. They can choose to “tap out” at any time or may be evicted if medical conditions demand. The finalist who stays the longest wins a grand cash prize of $5,00,000.

Executive produced by Russ McCarroll, Zachary Behr, Gretchen Palek, Nathaniel Lukas, Shawn Witt, Zachary Green, Ryan Pender, David George, and Brent Montgomery, season 1 of ‘Alone’ premiered on History on June 18, 2015. After spanning five seasons, this survival series was renewed for a sixth installment, which debuted on the platform on June 6, 2019. Here’s everything we know about the latest season.

Alone Cast: Who is in it?

‘Alone’ features 10 contestants who attempt to endure the incredibly hostile conditions. The cast members of sixth season include: disaster preparedness instructor Nathan Donnelly; primitive technology instructor, Donny Dust; construction worker, Jordan Jonas; self-defense instructor, Barry Karcher; search and rescue K9 handler, Ray Livingston; SERE instructor, Brady Nicholls; ancestral skills teacher, Woniya Thibeault; wilderness guide, Nikki van Schyndel; homesteader, Michelle Wohlberg; and hunting guide, Tim Backus.

All of the contestants are natives of either the US or Canada and aged between 35 – 55. They star as the fearless 10 in the latest installment of the show. Although after looking at the intros, some candidates might seem more promising than others, we ought to remember that in the end, it’s persistence that matters. In fact, this is the universal mantra for surviving in any challenging scenario.

Alone Plot: What is it about?

Survival of the fittest in the middle of nowhere — this is the crux of the entire plot of ‘Alone’. The general format of the documentary series follows 10 contestants who are stranded in some of the remotest regions. Featured places in the show are Northern Vancouver Island (seasons 1,2, and 4), Patagonia (season 3), Northern Mongolia (season 5), and Great Slave Lake (season 6). Usually set during the months of autumn, when the approaching winter increases the risks and stakes further, it places the participants in locations so that they cannot contact one another.

With limited resources, rough terrains, and scarce food sources, each contestant can select maximum 10 survival gear items, from a catalog of 40 supplies. They are given filming equipment via which they can document their daily struggles, experiences, psychological stress, and emotions. They must forage for their own food and build shelters from whatever they have in hand. The one who survives the longest in these extreme, isolated conditions is declared victorious and wins $5,00,000 as the final cash prize. If anyone wishes to leave the competition, he or she can choose the option of “tapping out”. Meanwhile, medical experts perform regular health check-ups and can remove any contestant if they find that he/she is physically unfit to continue further.

Season 6 of ‘Alone’ drops off 10 participants in the midst of the unforgiving Arctic in Canada, where these survivalists need to persist in freezing cold temperatures and windy climates, while battling dangerous wildlife, which can be terrifying polar bears, deadly wolves, moose packs, muskox, and even porcupines. The only inhabitants in this rugged area are the Lutsel K’e Dene people, a small indigenous tribe. The candidates are given fishing and hunting equipment to capture deer or elk for food. Apart from this, they are given 65 pounds of filming gear to document their ordeal. Each player is allotted a 5-to-10-square-mile area to live in. The last man standing is declared as the winner and pockets the grand cash prize.

‘Alone’ is definitely a survival series unlike any other. As per producer Ryan Pender, “We literally put people in the wilderness, give them cameras and say goodbye.” And season 6 is definitely more gripping, as it gives a glimpse into one of the most harrowing survival experiences. The series has never ventured so far into the north before. Statutory warning: before the onset of season 6, contestants were warned that the “season may last for up to a year, depending on how they and rivals fare.” To date, no season has lasted more than 87 days. So you know what you can expect!

Alone Season 6 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Alone’ season 6 premiered on History on June 6, 2019. Episodes follow a weekly schedule, airing each Thursday night every seven days. Depicting physical adversities and the tough mentality required to tackle life-threatening situations for days at a stretch, the show portrays the harsh reality of survival techniques.

‘Alone’, since it has received popularity among audiences and critics, might soon premiere for another season next year. Although there are no official announcements regarding a renewal, location, or participants of a new installment yet, we would not be surprised if it gets a seventh season. After witnessing its past reception and release schedule, if a season 7 of ‘Alone’ happens, it might premiere sometime in May – June 2020. But this is only as per our best guess. We shall update this section with more solid news as and when we learn more.
