‘Naked and Afraid XL’ is an American adventure reality television series that airs on the Discovery Channel. It first premiered on July 12, 2015. The series follows a team of amateur survivalists who are put through various challenges in the wild with basic tools. They have to step out of their comfort zones and survive in the wild for 40 days. In each season, 19 veteran survivalists have to live in a deserted location, and every man and woman has to test their boundaries to endure and survive on limited shelter, food, and water.
While surviving in extreme locations, the contestants also have to protect themselves from poisonous reptiles and territorial predators that are ready to pounce on them. They have no other option, and their only way of survival is using their hunting skills, inborn instincts, and survival skills. In their journey, they get to learn numerous things, learn from their surroundings, and get to know their competitors. Moreover, they get no outside help, and even the camera crew are not allowed to intervene, except for medical emergencies. The show is a spin-off of ‘ Naked and Afraid‘.
Surviving is a basic human instinct, and it is hardwired into each of us. However, with the progress of civilization and with technology making things easier for us, our survival instincts have become blunt with ages of being unused. This setting seeks to bring it all to the surface as the contestants have to hunt, build, do anything to survive. They also do have the option to tap out and go home if the challenge becomes too much for them. This thrilling format of the show, compared with the popularity of the original, has been successful in drawing quite a large number of fans. Critics too have been generous in praising the series.
Naked and Afraid XL Cast: Who is in it?
The main cast of ‘Naked and Afraid’ keeps changing over the seasons, and we have Michael Brown who serves as the narrator and appears over the seasons of the show. Other cast members include the participants like Matt Wright who serves as a survivalist. Shane J. Lewis appears as a survivalist and Lacey Jones is also a survivalist. There are many other characters who come and go, leaving an impression on the minds of the viewers.
In the upcoming season, we will see a new host of survivalists. However, it should be noted that Laura Zerra and Jeff Zausch will be taking on a challenge that has never been done before, and will attempt to survive for 60 days in the jungles of the Phillippines, which is 20 more than of the other survivalists. Zausch has already survived 21 days in Madagascar and 40 in Colombia, while Zerra has survived 21 days in Peru and Panama, 14 in Alaska and 40 in Colombia. It remains to be seen if the pros can emerge from this daunting 60-day challenge unscathed.

In ‘Naked and Afraid XL’ the survivalists start their dangerous journey into the wild. They have to survive for more than forty days by hunting and eating on their own. In the first episode, the survivalists travel to some exotic and dangerous location where they have to face the local fauna and the threats of living out in the wild.
