‘Nashville’ is an American musical drama series. It is created by Callie Khouri and produced by R.J. Cutler, Steve Buchanan, Khouri and Dee Johnson; their terms varying over the course of four seasons. From season five onwards, it is produced by Marshall Herskovitz, Liberty Goodshall and Ed Zwick.
The series depicts the lives of different fictional country music singers who live in Nashville, Tennessee. At the centre of its story is Rayna Jaymes, a famous country music celebrity on the verge of fading from people’s minds. Juliette Barnes is a rising star whose increasing popularity has become a threat to Jaymes. She hatches a plot to ruin the young woman’s career. Khouri is an Academy Award-winning writer, best known for her work in the classic ‘Thelma and Louise’. The show initially ran on ABC from 2012 to 2016. The network cancelled it after the fourth season. However, it received another breath of life after CMT picked it up and allowed it a run of two more seasons. The series helped in spiking the tourism industry of Tennessee, and The Bluebird Cafe, which is often cited in the show, particularly benefitted from it. The theatrical rights of the show have been acquired by Scott Delman who wants to produce its Broadway musical adaptation.
Nashville Plot: What’s it about?
The series begins with competition between Rayna Jaymes, a famous country music singer rapidly losing her popularity and Juliette Barnes, an upcoming young star. Rayna Jaymes is titled as the Queen of Country Music. But her latest album didn’t do well in the charts, and her live shows didn’t sell tickets as well. In the midst of this, her record label suggested her to open for the upcoming singer Juliette Barnes. Juliette is the sexy and young best-selling singer of bubble gun county pop. Juliette sees Rayna as privileged, consumed by her fame and not acknowledging her fans. She decides to keep her distance from this figure. On the other side, Reyna doesn’t like Juliette’s style of music and rejects the prospect of a joint tour with her. The two stars fight to get the famous guitarist Deacon Claybourne, who is Rayna’s bandmate and ex-lover, to perform on their tours. Rayna’s life gets complicated furthermore when her millionaire father convinces her husband, Teddy Conrad to run for the mayor of Nashville. Season 6 follows country stars Deacon Claybourne, Juliette Barnes and the Highway 65 record label family as they try to keep the dream of Rayna James alive while they pursue their music with complicated relationships, family and the quickly changing industry.

The cast of ‘Nashville’ is led by Connie Britton, who plays the role of Rayna James. Britton is an Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress. Some of her best-known works include titles like ‘The Brothers McMullen’, ‘American Horror Story‘, ‘Friday Night Lights’, ‘The Fighting Fitzgeralds’ and ‘Lost at Home’. Hayden Panettiere plays the role of Juliette Barnes. She rose to prominence with her role of Claire Bennet in the sci-fi drama, ‘Heroes’.
