Netflix has scored another KDrama to add to its growing collection which will see weekly episodes come to Netflix from July 17th onwards. Here’s what we know about ‘Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung’ and whether or not you should add it to your list.
The series is not a full Netflix Original with Netflix carrying the distribution rights abroad including in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. The series will begin airing on MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation) a South Korean network.
What’s Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung about?
Here’s the official Netflix synopsis for the series and the first trailer:
Free spirit Goo Hae-ryung embarks on a new life as a scholar in the Joseon royal court after hearing about a government post for women historians.
The story takes place in the 19th century so, therefore, is a period drama and will touch on gender stereotypes and the relationship between a young historian and a Prince named Yi Rim.
Who’s starring in Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung?
The two main stars of the show include Shin Se-kyung who has appeared in many titles which can be found on Netflix including Tree with Deep Roots, The Girl Who See Scents, Black Night and Six Flying Dragons.
Cha Eun-woo also features in two series available on Netflix with those being Hit the Top and My ID is Gangnam Beauty.
The series also stars Park Ki Woong, Lee Ji Hoon, Park Ji Hyun, Kim Yeo Jin, Kim Min Sang, Choi Duk Moon, and Sung Ji Ru.
Will there be an English dub for Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung?
This has yet to be confirmed but we’re not expecting an English dub to be available on Netflix for Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. Because the show is a simulcast it’ll sport subtitles but that’s it.
When do new episodes of Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung come to Netflix?
At the moment, we’re expecting weekly episodes of the show but as Soompi reports, two will be released in South Korea every week. So much like Designated Survivor: 60 Days, we could see one or two episodes released every week.
At the very least, we can expect new episodes of the drama every Wednesday.
