Fans of ‘90 Day Fiance‘, it’s time buckle up! It seems that the feud between Chantel and Pedro’s families is reaching its tipping point and becoming too huge to be contained by the ’90 Day’ franchise. So much so that the couple is getting their own spin-off. Titled, ‘The Family Chantel’, this reality TV drama is the first ’90 Day’ spin-off to focus on an individual couple. Read on to know what TLC’s latest show is all about.
The Family Chantel Cast: Who is in it?
As evident from the name, the cast of ‘The Family Chantel’ is headlined by Chantel and Pedro Jimeno, fan favorites from ’90 Day Fiance’. Apart from the duo, the series also stars members from their extended families, including Chantel’s parents Karen and Thomas; her siblings River and Winter; Pedro’s mother Lidia; and his sister Nicole.
The Family Chantel Plot: What is it about?
Chantel and Pedro had first appeared on ’90 Day Fiance’, and the couple has, since then, become a hot topic of discussion both on social media and on offline panels, primarily because of their rocky relationship. In fact, Chantel first introduced Pedro to her family on a false note — telling them that he had entered the US on a student visa. As soon as the truth came out, Chantel’s family vehemently opposed their marriage, as they believed, and still do, that he is using her for his American citizenship. Pedro is from the Dominican Republic and is in constant odds with his in-laws. The same applies to Chantel as well. Toward the end of ‘90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?‘ season 4, we saw that Pedro left for his country from Atlanta (without his partner) and ended up getting heavily drunk and dirty dancing with Coraima. ‘The Family Chantel’ picks up these events and narrates how Chantel tackles his awful betrayal of trust.
With trust issues stronger than ever, coupled with meddling family members, the show attempts to chronicle if the couple can sort out their differences and learn to cohabit as an extended family. At the onset of the season, we see Chantel and Pedro return to the Dominican Republic, aiming to tackle Pedro’s scandalous act and pacify their families. But this is easier said than done. With both the families being so opinionated and constantly at loggerheads with each other, this is a feat that seems near to impossible. Of course, this means that there are multiple heated arguments, meltdowns, and confrontations (including a particularly juicy one between Chantel and Coraima!) The tension reaches such a boiling point that it prompts Chantel to throw a glass of water at Coraima’s face, accompanied with the former’s comment: “I still have visions of Pedro slinging that girl all over the dance floor.”
Additionally, there are also promised doses of drama from the couple’s in-laws. In one incident, Pedro discusses with an immigration lawyer on how to permanently shift his mom and sister to America — a piece of news that is not received favorably by Chantel. And this is expected, considering his mother’s confrontational attitude and his sister being the one who showed Pedro’s dancing recording to Chantel in the first place. Certain episodes also dive into the relationship issues between Chantel’s sister, Winter, and her boyfriend; and the fights between the Everetts and the Jimenos.
Yes, ‘The Family Chantel’ does promise things getting a lot more intense. As per Howard Lee, President, and General Manager of TLC, “This is an awesome moment for TLC, as we create a family show based on one of our most popular 90 Day couples, and on a whole new night. Our fans can’t get enough of Pedro, Chantel, and their larger-than-life families. For a brand known as the destination for love, relationships, and family shows, The Family Chantel hits the bullseye.”
