9. Leaving Neverland (2019)
This two-part HBO documentary series sheds light on the accusations of child abuse against the iconic singer and dancer, Michael Jackson. The series delves deep into the accusations made by Wade Robson and James Safechuck, both of whom claim Jackson had abused them sexually when they were children. The child sexual abuse claims against Jackson began way back in 1993 when a father of a 13-year-old boy filed a case against him alleging that the pop star had molested his child. Jackson reached an out-of-court settlement of $23 million with them. Although they had defended Jackson earlier when the cases were raised in court, in this documentary, they claim that whatever they said in court was false and that Jackson had indeed performed numerous sexual acts on them at Neverland. The series received widespread media attention and also critical acclaim. But the Jackson family lashed out against it, claiming that it is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
