Upcoming Uma Thurman New Movies / TV Shows (2019, 2020)

[ad_1]

Uma Thurman is a name synonymous with extremities. Be it a Roman goddess of love wearing only her golden hair in place of clothes or a deadly murderess wielding a samurai sword, the actress always keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Uma Karuna Thurman was named after the Hindu goddess Parvati a.k.a Uma and the Sanskrit word for empathy “Karuna” by her dad who was an Indo-Tibetan Buddhist scholar. She started her acting career with the 1987 teen thriller ‘Kiss Daddy Goodnight.’ The young actress was open towards challenges and often played sexually charged characters. Her first breakthrough was the 1988 movie ‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.’ In the same year, the 18-year-old actress took the box office by storm with her performance in ‘Dangerous Liaisons,’ a big-budget project starring John Malkovich and Glenn Close. Next year, Thurman played the lead role in ‘Henry and June’ the first film to get an NC-17 stamp.

During the early ’90s, the actress struggled with low-key characters and projects until she landed a career-defining role in ‘Pulp Fiction’ (1994), directed by Quentin Tarantino. She played the character of a deceptively glamorous female mobster. The movie went on to become a cult classic while Thurman received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The explosive success of ‘Pulp Fiction’ catapulted her into a number of back-to-back big budget, star-studded projects including ‘Gattaca’ (1997), ‘Batman and Robin’ (1997), ‘Les Miserables’ (1998). and ‘The Avengers’ (1998). After rubbing shoulders with high profile Hollywood actors, she returned to her roots of independent cinema with Woody Allen’s ‘Sweet and Lowdown’ (1999), Henry James’ ‘The Golden Bowl’ (2000) and ‘Chelsea Walls’ (2001) directed by Ethan Hawke.

Thurman reunited with Tarantino in 2003 for the two-part martial art epic ‘Kill Bill.’ The samurai sword-wielding assassin she played in the film completely stole the show. It is, in my opinion, one of the most memorable female acting performances of all time. Thurman’s other major works include the sci-fi thriller ‘Paycheck’ with Ben Affleck, ‘The Producers,’ ‘My Super Ex-Girlfriend,’ ‘The Accidental Husband,’ ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,’ and ‘Bel Ami.’ The 6ft tall actress became an icon of the new Hollywood that gender swaps every possible genre.

Thurman is one of the most sought after models who collaborated with cosmetics giant Lancôme. After all those years of lightning action sequences, splashing blood, and shock waves of emotional outbursts on screen, she still reigns as unpredictable as ever. At this point you must be wondering what is the next Uma Thurman movie or TV show? Well, here’s the list of upcoming Uma Thurman films and TV shows scheduled to release in 2019 and 2020. We can only hope that the latest Uma Thurman movies would be as good as some of her recent ones.

2. Tau Ceti Four (TBA)

‘Tau Ceti Four’ marks the return of veteran filmmaker John McTiernan after a hiatus of 16 long years. The movie is his first directorial venture since the 2003 action flick ‘Basic’ starring John Travolta. McTiernan has roped in Travis Fimmel (‘Vikings’ and ‘Raised By Wolves’) and Uma Thurman to play the lead roles in his second coming. Set in the fourth planet of the distant Tau Ceti solar system, the plot follows three mysterious outsiders who land on the war-torn planet. The men are on a mission to wipe out the corrupt oligarchs and ruthless warlords who wreak havoc all over the planet. McTiernan directs the movie from his own screenplay and is producing along with Gail Sistrunk, Anthony Katagas and Thurman. McTiernan’s previous credits include ‘Die Hard,’ ‘The Predator’ and ‘The Thomas Crown Affair.’ More details about the project have not been revealed yet.

1. Girl Soldier (TBA)

Uma Thurman reportedly stars and produces the upcoming movie ‘Girl Soldier.’ Based on the book ‘Stolen Angels: The Kidnapped Girls of Uganda’ by Kathy Cook, the movie is set in 1996 Uganda, which is burning with political unrest. The plot follows a group of boarding school girls who are ambushed by a band of armed rebels. The militarized thugs kidnap the young girls to turn them into sex slaves of soldiers. But a daring teacher at the school named Sister Caroline follows them all the way back to the rebel camp. She negotiates with the rebel soldiers and manages to save 110 girls. The bravery and determination of the nun caught headlines and landed her in the global anti-trafficking campaign of the United Nations.

‘Girl Soldier’ has been in development for a while. Thurman is producing the project in association with Jojo Ryder of Untouchable J. Productions and Imprint Entertainment. Rick de Oliveira, Brian Bullock and Jeffrey L. Williams also join the project as co-producers, according to Deadline. The movie is directed by Will Raée from a screenplay by Karen Croner, Jonathan Marc Feldman and Stephanie Pinola. No release date has been attached to the project yet.

Chambers (2019 – )

Netflix introduced the brand-new horror drama series ‘Chambers’ to compensate for the void left by ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ in its horror programming slate. The series, which debuted on April 26, 2019, features Uma Thurman, Tony Goldwyn, Sivan Alyra Rose, Lilliya Reid, Nicholas Galitzine, Kyanna Simone Simpson, Lilli Kay, Sarah Mezzanotte, and Griffin Powell-Arcand in major roles. The plot follows a teen girl named Sasha (debutante Sivan Alyra Rose), who wakes up in a hospital bed after a heart transplant surgery. During her recovery, the mystery surrounding the whereabouts of the donor makes her curious. But what begins as an intriguing journey in search of the details of the person whose heart saved her life turns out to be an absolute nightmare for Sasha.

Uma Thurman and Tony Goldwyn (‘Scandal’) play the roles of a mysterious couple who grieve the untimely death of their teen daughter. When they learn that their daughter’s heart is still beating in Sasha’s body, the couple develops an unlikely attachment with her. Created by Leah Rachel, the series met with mixed reviews from critics. On June 18, 2019, Netflix cancelled the series. Though ‘Chambers’ failed to catch up with the expectations, the decision came as a surprise for many because the streaming giant rarely cancelled a series after its first season. Considering the high-profile cast and promising setting of the series, critical consensus is that the show deserves a second season. Leah Rachel also served as executive producer of the series along with Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, Winnie Kemp, Wolfgang Hammer, Jennifer Yale, and Stephen Gaghan.
