20th Century Fox has released the new red band trailer for the upcoming action-comedy ‘Stuber‘ starring Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista. The hilarious trailer features Nanjiani as Stu, an Uber driver who finds himself at the center of a chaotic mess of bullets, gangsters and drug dealers. His nightmare of a ride starts when a gritty cop Vic (Bautista) drags him into his flawed and dangerous scheme to hunt down a cold-blooded criminal mastermind who cuts loose in the city.

Stu struggles hard to stay alive in the havoc while trying to hold on to a five-star rating as the driver. Vic makes his way through bullets, blasts and flying cars. To make things worse, Stu is presumably a temporary Uber driver on contract who lacks health insurance! Though the unlikely duo ends up badly injured over the course of their adventures together, they trigger a laugh riot in the trailer.

The other cast includes Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino, and Karen Gillan. ‘Stuber’ is directed by Michael Dowse from a script by Tripper Clancy. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are the producers.

Nanjiani also played an Uber driver in the 2017 movie ‘The Big Sick,’ which went on to become one of the highest grossing indie flicks of the year. The movie is reportedly based on Nanjiani’s real-life romance with his wife Emily V. Gordon. When Emily’s character falls ill, the inter-ethnic couple starts to face their cultural differences like never before. After the movie garnered widespread critical acclaim, Amazon gave it a wide release. Gordon and Nanjiani received nominations for an Academy Award and a Writers Guild Award in the original script category for the movie. They also won the best first screenplay trophy at the Spirit Awards. ‘The Big Sick’ is directed by Michael Showalter.

“I am only going to do movies where I’m an Uber driver,” Nanjiani said in a recent interview. “And someone else is in some medical peril or has had a medical procedure done. I’m going to do a trilogy, then I’m going to do a prequel to the trilogy. I’m going to do a sequel trilogy. There’s going to be spinoffs,” he added.

When asked about the upcoming flick ‘Stuber,’ the actor said, “You know, I really wanted to do this movie, and that was something I thought a lot about. In ‘Big Sick,’ he’s an Uber driver, but it’s not really integral to the story. Whereas in ‘Stuber,’ that is pretty tied into the story.” ‘Stuber,’ which had its world premiere at SXSW in March, is lined up for a July 12, 2019 release.

Nanjiani, whose roots are in Pakistan, moved to the U.S. when he was an 18-year-old aspiring actor. He emerged as the rising star with HBO’s hit comedy series ‘Silicon Valley.’
