The first trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ has been officially released online after debuting at Cannes Film Festival on May 24. The teaser trailer offers Rambo fans a glimpse of the upcoming fifth, and most likely the last, installment of the cult franchise. Stallone returns as his legendary character John Rambo in the teaser. This time, Rambo is on a mission to save a friend’s daughter who has been abducted by the Mexican drug cartel.
An ageing Rambo reminisces the old horrors in a voice-over, which is set to the tunes of the song ‘Old Town Road,’ at the family ranch in Arizona in the trailer. “I’ve lived in a world of death. I’ve watched people I’ve loved dying, some fast with a bullet, some not enough left to bury,” Rambo says in the trailer. “All these years I’ve kept my secret, but the time has come to face my past. And if it comes looking for me, they will welcome death.”
Rambo sets booby traps around the country house to welcome a gang of unpleasant guests, the gangsters. He offers them a warm welcome in typical Rambo style. The trailer gives out hints that they came for him and they have a score to settle.
Reports suggest that Rambo goes after a deadly Mexican cartel to rescue his caretaker Maria’s daughter, Gabriella. The cartel is notorious to throw the kidnapped girls into their sex racket. Rambo joins forces with a reporter whose sister has also been kidnapped by the cartel. Stallone unveiled the first look of the movie as part of a master class at Cannes Film Festival.
“In every film, Rambo never goes home, he goes out to the jungle or Afghanistan. In the new one, he does come home, but in a way, he never arrives. He’s there, but he’s not. That’s what the whole story is built around. As soon as he walks outside his door, he has no more control. The world controls you,” Stallone is quoted as saying by Deadline. “There’s going to be some serious vengeance in this movie. A lot of people getting hurt,” he added.
‘Last Blood’ is expected to wrap up the Rambo franchise, which kick-started with the 1982 film ‘First Blood.’ It was followed by ‘Rambo: First Blood Part 2’ in 1985, ‘Rambo 3’ in 1988 and ‘Rambo’ in 2008. The first four installments together earned a sum of over $294M from the domestic market and $727M globally.
‘Rambo: Last Blood’ is directed by Adrian Grunberg from a screenplay by Matthew Cirulnik. Lionsgate releases the movie on September 20, 2019.
