What’s New on Netflix Australia This Week: May 24th, 2019
[ad_1]
Only 27 new titles to announce this week as we wait for an abundance of titles to arrive in June. There are still some fantastic movies and TV shows that have arrived which should hopefully tide you over into next week. With plenty of Originals to be enjoyed too, we can expect a few more titles being added to your watch list. Here are your latest Netflix Australia additions from the past week.
First of all, here’s the past week’s highlights:
The Imitation Game (2014)
Arguably one of the saddest tales of one of World War 2’s unsung heroes, the tale of Alan Turing, and the Enigma Code is captivating. Perfectly cast in the role of Turing is Benedict Cumberbatch. His fantastic performance earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards, while the film itself earned the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Notably, Kiera Knightly also earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
In 1939 as a response to the war with Nazi Germany, Britain created MI6, the British secret intelligence service. Cambridge mathematician Alan Turing is recruited by MI6 in order to help crack the codes of the Nazis including Enigma. While thought to be unbreakable, Turing and his team pour all of their knowledge into building a machine that can help decipher the once unbreakable code.
Slasher (Season 3) Netflix Original
After a 2 year-long hiatus the Canadian horror-anthology Slasher returns to Netflix once more. This time as a fully fledged Netflix Original, Slasher in all its bloody greatness will certainly strike fear into the hearts of audiences once more.
Outside an apartment complex, a young man is murdered but none of the witnesses stepped in to help. Soon witnesses to the murder are hunted down one by one, seemingly being punished for not helping the young man that died on their doorstep.
Gran Torino (2008)
Starring and directing in Gran Torino, Clint Eastwood was at his absolute scowling best. The drama-thriller is Eastwood’s second highest grossing film to date grossing $270 million, only being beaten by American Sniper with $547.4 million. Truly a modern classic, Gran Torino more than deserves a watch.
Walt Kowalski now a retired auto worker and Korean War veteran, despises what has become of his neighborhood. Once a thriving a community of fellow American auto workers, Walt is tired of seeing minority families moving into the area. In a surprise turn of events, Walt takes a Bee Vang under his wing after the young Asian man was forced into stealing Walt’s prized Gran Torino. The more time Walt spends with Bee Vang and his family, the more he realizes he has more in common with his Asian neighbors then he does his own family.
