'Wonder Woman 1984' Poster Reveals Diana’s New Costume & Armour

‘Wonder Woman 1984‘ director Patty Jenkins unveils the upcoming DC film’s first look poster on Wednesday. The poster features Gal Gadot as her iconic character Diana Prince in her new costume and armor. The battle uniform is expected to be among the action-wardrobe choices for the superhero movie. The filmmaker also revealed that the makers won’t be kick-starting their official campaign for the highly anticipated movie until December 2019. According to various reports, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ will be a direct sequel to ‘Wonder Woman.’

Though the new costume is a far cry from the characteristic red-white-blue attire Diana sported in ‘Wonder Woman,’ it follows the long-lasting tradition of ‘Wonder Woman’ comics of upgrading the superhero’s battle uniform and gadgets. Gal Gadot debuted as Diana Prince in the DC film franchise with the 2016 movie ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ directed by Zack Snyder. In the next year, Godot turned up with her solo movie ‘Wonder Woman,’ directed by Patty Jenkins. The prequel, which was set in the backdrop of World War I, followed Diana’s childhood days and her evolution into ‘Wonder Woman.’

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ is expected to be another prequel to ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ which unfolds later in the timeline of Wonder Woman. Producer Charles Roven recently described ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ as a standalone movie like ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘James Bond’ flicks. “Patty Jenkins was just determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel. And she’s definitely delivering on that,” Roven told Vulture. “It’s a completely different time frame and you’ll get a sense of what Diana/Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years. But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling. Even though it’ll have a lot of the same emotional things, a lot of humor, a lot of brave action. Tugs at the heart strings as well,” he added.

The magical lasso-wielding Amazonian princess will reportedly lock horns with Cheetah (the main villain of the movie played by Kristen Wiig) in the backdrop of the waning days the Cold War in the late ’80s. While Gal Godot reprises her role, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright return along with newcomers Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal.

Distributor Warner Bros’ quickly greenlit the second installment after ‘Wonder Woman’ earned nearly $821.8M from the international box office. Moreover, the 2017 movie made Patty Jenkins the first woman to helm a superhero franchise. Jenkins co-wrote the script of ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ with Geoff Johns and David Callaham. The movie is produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, The Stone Quarry, and Mad Ghost Productions. Warner Bros. Pictures releases ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ on June 5, 2020.
