Sophia Bush joins Grey’s Anatomy for season 21 as Dr. Cass Beckman.

 

Sophia Bush is making her much-anticipated return to network television, this time in scrubs. The former One Tree Hill star will appear in a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy’s 21st season, beginning with the November 7 episode. According to Deadline, Bush will portray Dr. Cass Beckman, a trauma surgeon at Seattle Presbyterian who is characterized as “amiable, fun, and a little messy around the edges.”

In the episode, Dr. Cass Beckman is married to David Beckman, a cardiothoracic surgeon who will also join the Grey Sloan Memorial medical staff. While revelations regarding David Beckman indicate that he would be a minor figure, Sophia Bush’s role will be more important, giving fans more to look forward to.

Sophia Bush celebrated her new role by posting a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram, where she proudly displayed her Grey’s Anatomy costume. “I just wasn’t done with my scrubs,” she captioned the photo, referring to her earlier medical drama, Good Sam, which premiered in 2022.

Bush’s love for portraying a doctor is not new. When she was cast as the lead in Good Sam, she stated her delight about entering a genre she enjoys. In an interview with BuzzFeed, she stated, “It is one of my favorite television genres. Combining a family drama, which has always been central to some of my favorite episodes, with a medical theme is fantastic. Every day at work, I feel like I’m living a dream.”

A Familiar Face Returns to the Small Screen
While many fans remember Sophia Bush for her legendary role as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill, which she portrayed from 2003 to 2012, her television career has gone well beyond that. From 2014 to 2017, she played Erin Lindsay on NBC’s Chicago P.D., which helped her establish herself as a household name on network television.

Bush most recently had a recurring part in Hulu’s Love, Victor, where she played Veronica, Mia’s stepmother. Bush returns to a fan favorite show, Grey’s Anatomy, bringing her expertise to one of television’s longest-running and most beloved dramas.
